HNTB Electrical Engineer - Traction Power in Chelmsford, Massachusetts
What We're Looking For
Our Chelmsford, MA office is seeking an entry-level Electrical Engineer to join our Traction Power Rail team.
This position assists assigned department by performing basic engineering-related tasks including research, development, design and delivery on assigned project(s).
Primary Focus Will Include:
- Electrical Engineering tasks related to rail systems and transportation infrastructure including substations, transmission and distribution systems, pump stations, switch rooms, passenger stations and power generators.
Additional Responsibilities Include:
Work with more experienced engineers and contribute to engineering designs for projects
Perform design calculations and conduct investigative analyses toward completion of assigned design tasks, and direct preparation of design specifications for power related work
Organize scheduling of specific tasks and assignments
Utilize Excel to produce spreadsheets and calculations
Produce cost estimates for electrical work
Assist with power system studies, DC electrified railway systems
Design auxiliary power and switchgear systems in a transit environment.
Generate traction power specifications and design drawings.
Assists in the preparation of computer simulations and studies including DC load flow, short-circuit availability, motor-starting, and protective relay coordination studies.
Perform site investigations in substations and along railroad tracks.
Develop technical reports
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electrical Engineering
Emphasis or concentration in Power Systems
Previous internship or co-op experience
Interest in Transit and Rail projects
Experience in design, installation, testing, and commissioning of electrical systems
Working knowledge of AutoCAD, MicroStation and Mathcad
What You'll Need
Contributes to the preparation or modification of reports, plans and designs for projects.
Assists in the preparation of project quantity and cost estimates.
Performs other duties as assigned.
