The time is right to join HNTB Corporation! HNTB is currently seeking an Assistant Resident Engineers for our Chicago, Illinois office.
Responsible for coordinating and monitoring inspection efforts in a specific discipline/trade on moderate size and complex projects to determine that Contractor's construction activities are monitored and controlled in accordance with design plans, specifications, and contractual requirements. Responsible for assisting with the resolution of project issues. Plans and conducts tasks requiring the evaluation, selection, substantial adaptation and modification of standard construction engineering techniques, procedures and criteria. Reviews submittals by contracts for conformance with the construction contract documents. Act as a technical liaison between contractor and design engineering staff.
Supervises, mentors, and trains subordinate staff.Monitors internal HNTB project controls for assigned staff.
Performs/observes on-site material testing.
Produces as-constructed schedules.
Reads and interprets complex contract documents.
Monitors contractors progress and compares with progress schedule.
Prepares Inspectors Daily report of contractors work.
Responsible for maintaining as constructed drawings.
Performs sophisticated, complicated mathematical calculations.
Administers JPIs and budget.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Work closely with client representatives on a day to day coordination of contractor’s work activities
Develop project correspondence RFI, submittal reviews and schedule reviews
Field staff coordination and other duties as directed the Resident Engineer
Approval of field orders, invoices and payment applications which may include a final payment
Preparation for pre-award and pre-construction meetings
Review and maintain the project schedule
Ensure all required contract documentation and information is properly processed and understood by the Project Field Inspectors
Review and monitor staff time allowance and all approved overtime
Bachelor's degree in Engineering
6 years related construction experience
Fundamentals of Engineering certification
All jurisdictional certificates
BS in Civil Engineering
Experience working on construction projects as a field engineer or office engineer
IDOT Experience, City of Chicago Experience, CTA Experience
Proficiency in basic computer programs
EIT or PE
General Work Conditions
Combination Office and Field Environment: Most work is performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use. Work may infrequently be performed at client’s job site, construction trailer, and in the field. Work may sometimes require working in inclement weather, working in a construction site, being exposed to heavy construction equipment and doing extensive walking. Adherence to applicable safety protocol is required.
